Dentures vs. Implants: 3 Reasons Why You Should Choose Dental Implants

Finding the ideal restorations for tooth replacement can be hard, especially if you have to choose between dental implants and dentures. Both options are viable, and they allow you to enjoy a beautiful smile and boost your confidence even after losing one or multiple teeth. However, though both options are great, you still have to make a choice based on various factors such as efficiency, convenience and durability. This article will address some of the reasons why dental implants are a better solution to tooth replacement as compared to dentures.

Implants won't affect your speech

When getting dental restorations, one of your primary concerns should be their effect on speech. After getting dentures, you may have a hard time speaking properly. This is because dentures can sometimes move around in the mouth and cause you to slur your words. Such an incidence can be embarrassing, and people can easily notice that you are wearing restorations. On the other hand, implants feel pretty much like your natural teeth. They are surgically placed into the gum, and this prevents them from moving. As a result, you can talk and smile as you used to, and no one will notice anything new.

You won't change your diet

After getting implants, you can resume your regular diet without any restrictions. You can consume caffeinated beverages, red wine and other pigmented foods without worrying about staining the implants. Also, you can take acidic foods and drinks without affecting the integrity of implants, as they are sturdy. However, when you use dentures, you have to be careful about chewing on hard foods, as they can damage the restorations. Also, some pigmented foods can stain dentures, so you have to avoid them to maintain pearly white teeth.

Your dental routine remains the same

You don't have to change your dental routine after receiving implants. You can brush and floss after every meal and before going to bed as usual. However, with dentures, a little more effort will be required as food may get stuck in the denture spaces. This means that you have to brush, floss, or swash water in the mouth after eating a meal or snack to avoid embarrassing yourself.  Also, dentures have to be removed and soaked every night to maintain their functionality. This is unlike implants which are permanently placed in the mouth.

Finding the right replacement for your lost teeth doesn't have to be a difficult task. Contact a dentist for more information on dental implants and how to care for them after treatment.

About Me

Dental Procedures: A Guide

Hi! My name is Jenny. I live in Melbourne with my husband, two kids and a dog. Right now, I have taken a little time out to look after my newborn babies and to be a full-time homemaker. However, before I was a mom and a wife, I trained to be a dental nurse. Dentistry runs in the family. My dad was a dentist and so was my grandad. As a child, I remember playing with the models of teeth they had in the office. I really miss helping people to maintain their dental health, so I decided to start a blog. I hope you find it useful.
